Curriculum Development

Curriculum development at Aspiring Leadership is foundational to the work that we do as educators and coaches. We believe educational change is designed to better meet the needs of students and to prepare them for the future. We currently have developed two courses: Authentic Leadership and Personal Mastery Development 10 and Coaching 11. Both courses can be adapted to accommodate learning between grades ten and twelve.

Authentic Leadership and Personal Mastery Development 10

Authentic Leadership and Personal Mastery Development 10, employs the Journeying to the Hearts of Young Leaders: Personal Mastery in Girls© curriculum. The curriculum is designed specifically for young women. It provides students with a foundation for an in-depth, meaningful inquiry into getting to know yourself and leading from where you stand™. Students investigate the study of authentic leadership in the 21st Century while engaging in a comprehensive study of personal mastery. Personal mastery development in young women establishes a sense of purpose towards life; illuminating that authentic leadership is about action, not title or position. All girls can be leaders. Authentic leadership is personal integrity and interpersonal influence. The curriculum is divided into seven modules:

  1. Authentic Leaders: Leading from Where You Stand,
  2. Current Reality: Where You Are,
  3. Core Values: What Really Matters to You,
  4. Legacy: Making Your Mark on the World,
  5. Vision: What You Aspire to Create,
  6. Emotional Tension: Naming it and Moving On, and
  7. Putting it all Together: My Leadership Story.

Students are introduced to a variety of learning activities including, reflective journaling, learning circles, world café's and individual coaching. Participants in this course gain additional skills in presenting, using technology and academic writing.

Coaching 11

Coaching 11© is the first coaching program designed for Young Leaders in Canadian Schools. Students participate in one-on-one coaching with a certified executive/personal coach. This highly personalized process optimizes students' leadership ability while working to maximize their leadership potential. The coaching style used in the program invites students to access their own leadership wisdom to become more competent in communicating, adopting and creating change in themselves and others.

Specifically this coaching program will:

  1. aid integration of formal learning
  2. guide students to stretch, risk and move to the next level of their capability
  3. enhance emotional intelligence through self-awareness and self-discipline
  4. encourage school-life balance
  5. introduce effective communication tools
  6. assist students with planning strategically

Students receive six half hour sessions conducted on site and by telephone. Coaching 11© is the perfect complement to leadership development. It provides one-on-one transformative support for students as they learn and grow as responsible leaders. It helps individuals to reframe an issue, explore new perspectives and change patterns of behavior while facilitating responsibility and accountability.
